Situation: The back of this gas station located in San Carlos, California has
two outdoor cooling units for its air conditioning needs inside the store. When
the units are running, they produce an unwanted sound that exceeds the the city's
noise ordinance at the property line.
|
|
Recommendation:
West General engineered two open-top, three sided enclosures to contain some of
the noise from both units. Frame dimensions measured 6' x 10' x 6' x 8' high to
isolate the units without interfering with the store's roofing or existing electrical,
plumbing work. Ventilation was a necessity and was possible through the open-top
feature. |

|
Solution:
Because the enclosure is intended for outdoor usage, BBC-14 curtain panels manufactured
by Sound Seal (with a silicone facing finish
to withstand weathering) were attached to the frame. After the panels were properly
installed to the frame, the sounds generated from the air conditioners funneled
upwards, away from the property line. Consequently sound energy from the units
measured below the city's noise ordinance requirements. |
