Churches
and Fabritec by Pinta
In Churches, synagogues and worship centers large
or small, words and music can sound incomprehensible
to the congregation if sound is not properly controlled.
Poor sound quality is common in churches because of an abundance of hard surface materials which are all acoustically reflective. Sound waves bounce back and forth between parallel surfaces, creating a confusion of noise until they finally decay.
Music is important to the ministry at Foothill Community
Church, Angels Camp, CA. Vocal and instrumental
performances are integral to services. But the three
second reverberation delay in the 2700 square foot
worship center distorted music and the pastor's
message.
"For a year and a half, we tried everything from hanging banners to stacking furniture to redirecting the speakers," said David Bowman, Foothill's worship leader. "We knew we had a problem; we just didn't know how to solve it." With the help of West General Acoustics, church officials identified the problem as too much reverberation in the mid and high frequencies. Because music is so important to the church, they wanted to maintain the room's liveliness to enhance the sound, while toning down the excess.
To achieve that balance, church officials installed FABRITEC Wall Panels. Installation was a simple Saturday project for a group of church members."The panels are lightweight, so they are easy to maneuver and hold in place." said Bowman. " We installed 20 panels - eight across the back and six along each side - in a matter of a few hours." The crew glued the back of each panel with regular water-based adhesive and secured the panels in place with a finish nail in each corner.
